On October 13, 2024, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Police Officers John Rodriguez and Shyenna Vega responded to Madd Hatter, 221 Washington St., on reports of a dispute between patrons over a possible theft. An on-scene investigation revealed an individual, later identified as 41-year-old male of Blairstown, walked up to another man, harassed him, and walked away, but came back and put the victim in a chokehold and stole his chain, worth $7,000. As Cristi tried to leave the bar, security stopped him. Sgt. Roary Miller and Police Officer Christopher Barral arrived on the scene to assist. Christi was arrested and transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters. He was charged with simple assault and theft, processed, and released from custody. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
