On June 12, 2026, at approximately 8:43 p.m., a Florida Highway Patrol trooper was conducting traffic enforcement on northbound U.S. 1 near the 98-mile marker in Key Largo when he observed a 2024 Suzuki GSX-R1000R traveling at an estimated speed of more than 100 mph. The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, but the motorcycle accelerated and fled northbound. During the approximately 10-minute pursuit, the rider reached speeds of about 113 mph, ran multiple red lights, rapidly changed lanes between vehicles, illegally passed traffic, used the bicycle lane, lane-split, and repeatedly performed U-turns while traveling in both directions on U.S. 1. The rider eventually abandoned the motorcycle near 103330 Overseas Highway and fled on foot. After repeatedly ignoring commands to stop, the suspect was taken into custody following a controlled takedown. The rider was identified as Deivys De Jesus Garcia Aguiar, 28. Investigators determined his driver's license was suspended, and he did not have a motorcycle endorsement. Garcia Aguiar later admitted he knew the trooper was attempting to stop him and intentionally fled because his license was suspended. Garcia Aguiar sustained minor abrasions to his leg but declined further medical treatment. No motorists, pedestrians, or property were struck or damaged during the pursuit. Garcia Aguiar was transported to the Plantation Key Jail and cited for fleeing and attempting to elude, dangerous excessive speeding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, operating a motorcycle without the required endorsement, and an improperly affixed or concealed license plate.
