On December 24, 2022, at approximately 0124 hours I was patrolling on Piedmont Road NE near Lindbergh Way. I heard and observed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk accelerate at a high rate of speed. I checked the vehicle with my radar at 67 mph in a 40-mph zone on Piedmont Road NE near Garson Road. I activated my emergency blue lights to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to maintain its lane, straddling the white dashed travel lane lines. The vehicle was slow rolling then abruptly sped away initiating a pursuit. The vehicle was traveling south on Piedmont Road NE. The vehicle nearly rear ended a passenger car in the middle lane in a reckless manner. The vehicle ran a red light at Piedmont Road and Piedmont Circle NE. The vehicle made an illegal U-turn from the second lane to go back northbound on Piedmont Road NE. I got a partial tag number on the vehicle out of GA P366. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Piedmont Road NE in and out of lanes, until making another illegal U-turn over a concrete median from the middle lane just before Adina Drive NE. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Piedmont Road, before getting onto Buford Highway. The vehicle traveled south on Buford Highway, then took the 85/75 Connector south. While going through the tunnel before merging onto 85/75 the vehicle passed a passenger car on the left shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle cut off another passenger car and improperly changed lanes to get onto 85/75 connector south. The vehicle was traveling well over triple digits and in and out of traffic, cutting other vehicles off. The driver showed no concern for the rest of the motoring public. As we approach the Williams Street exit ramp TFC 1 Shackelford #659 activated his emergency equipment and assumed the primary position in the pursuit. We continued southbound on the interstate until the vehicle got off the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive exit. The vehicle jumped a raised concrete median while making an illegal U-turn. At this time Capitol Police Officer McClendon #1808 assumed primary position in the pursuit. The vehicle continued traveling eastbound on MLK Jr. Drive SE at a high rate of speed. The vehicle turned right onto Oakland Avenue SE and then left onto Memorial Drive SE. We lost visual of the vehicle after it turned left onto Pearl Street SE. The pursuit was discontinued, and I deactivated my emergency equipment. TFC 1 Shackelford notified the Troop C Communications center to resume normal operation.
