In the early hours of November 7, 2024, a Bee Cave Police Department (BCPD) officer attempted to stop a speeding orange Ford Ranger truck on Hwy. 71. The driver, later identified as Zachary Labrie, fled north on FM 620, driving into oncoming lanes and prompting BCPD to end the pursuit out of caution. Shortly afterward, Labrie was captured on security footage entering an apartment complex, breaking into a unit with a shotgun, and leaving minutes later. By 4:42 a.m., Labrie allegedly carjacked a woman’s Nissan Sentra at gunpoint from a Starbucks on N FM 620. Two hours later, he reportedly stole a man’s Nissan Rogue from an HEB parking lot, abandoning the Sentra nearby. Austin Police Department (APD) officers and the Violent Crimes Task Force located Labrie near the apartment complex. When officers identified themselves and ordered Labrie to stop, he fled on foot, then pointed a handgun at a detective. In response, the officers fired their weapons, striking Labrie. Despite EMS intervention, Labrie was pronounced dead at 9:03 a.m. Warning: The video contains graphic content that may be disturbing to some viewers.
