Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 1:20 AM on March 8, 2025, Waldwick Police Officer Edwin Sherman saw a black 2021 Lexus swerving across lanes on northbound Route 17. He turned on his emergency lights, and the driver left the highway onto Sheridan Avenue before stopping beneath the overpass. Officer Sherman approached the vehicle and identified the driver as Marianna Covello. He told Marianna that the stop was prompted by her unsafe driving. While speaking with her, he smelled alcohol and saw other signs of impairment. He began a roadside screening by asking her to recite the alphabet from "d" through "p." She skipped the letter "i." Marianna completed a finger dexterity test successfully. After Officer Van Dyke arrived, officers asked her to leave the Lexus and complete more field sobriety tests. Officer Sherman first administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, or HGN, test. Around then, Marianna said she was an "optician," although her social media lists her as an Office Manager at an optician's office. During the test, Sherman observed a lack of smooth pursuit, clear and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and an early onset before 45 degrees. He also observed vertical nystagmus. Marianna then performed the Walk and Turn test. She failed to touch heel-to-toe on every step, made an improper turn, and took the wrong number of steps. During the One Leg Stand test, she did not raise her foot correctly and struggled to keep her balance. The alcohol odor and her poor performance on the field sobriety tests led officers to arrest Marianna for DWI. ALL POINTS Towing impounded her Lexus for the required 12-hour hold under John's Law. Officer Sherman took Marianna to the Waldwick Police Department for processing. At the station, officers read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to provide breath samples. Her Alcotest results showed a 0.15% BAC, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%. Once processing ended, Marianna was released to her boyfriend, Jonathan Lucente, who signed the Potential Liability Warning form for her. Officer Sherman issued Marianna three traffic tickets: Operating under the influence (39:4-50) Reckless driving (39:4-96) Traffic on marked lanes - unsafe lane change (39:4-88B) Court records show that Marianna pleaded guilty to operating under the influence on July 7, 2025. Her license was revoked for one day, and she had to spend 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center. She also had to use an ignition interlock device for seven months. Her fines totaled $690, while the other two citations were dismissed under a plea agreement. The attorney listed in the case was David M. Dunne, the father of Olivia Dunne.
