It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 2:19 a.m. on May 23, 2024, Patrolman David Flynn of the Rockaway Borough Police saw a 2010 Lincoln MKX swerving and ignoring a traffic signal on Church Street. He turned on his siren and pulled the car over. When he approached, he spoke with the driver, Cristina Jasso-Olvera. During the talk, he noticed a strong smell of alcohol and saw signs of impairment. Cristina first denied drinking, but then admitted she had one drink. Suspecting she was drunk, the officer asked her to step out of the vehicle and do field sobriety tests. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). Next, she was asked to walk and turn. She failed to touch her heel to toe on each step and did not count aloud as told. The last test was standing on one leg. During this, Cristina didn’t lift her foot properly and put it down early. Because of her reckless driving and failure to pass the sobriety tests, Cristina was arrested for driving under the influence. Her car was towed and held for 12 hours, under what’s called John's Law. Flynn took her to the police station for more processing. The station’s alcohol testing device was broken, so they transferred her to the Rockaway Township Police Department. Cristina refused to give enough breath samples despite repeated tries, so the officers charged her with refusing to test. She was taken back to the Rockaway Borough Police Station. After processing, she was released until her court date. Patrolman Flynn also issued her several citations.
