On May 24, 2024. An officer from the Lodi Police Department was dispatched to the report of a male damaging a vehicle and attempting to attack a female. The officer recognized the address from a call approximately 4 hours prior when a male identified as Alex was removed from the residence after a confrontation with his girlfriend. While responding to the call, the officer observed Alex's vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The officer approached Alex and told him to exit the vehicle. He initially refused but eventually complied and was searched before being secured in the rear of a squad car. Officers noted a strong odor of intoxicants emanating from Alex’s breath and could see that his eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred. Officers then went to the residence to get a statement from the female victim. She explained that she had received at least 20 phone calls and over 70 text messages from Alex after the incident earlier. The female stated that she went to bed and woke up to Alex standing in her room. She then mentioned that she got into her vehicle and attempted to leave when Alex began banging on the windows and broke her door handle. The victim also mentioned that Alex broke off the rear windshield wiper and threw it on the ground. The female also explained that Alex had climbed up onto the roof of her vehicle and was kicking it as well. While speaking with the victim, officers heard Alex making noise and yelling from the squad car. As officers approached the squad, they noticed that Alex had torn down a ceiling mounted dome light and threw it out the window. Additionally, Alex snapped off the interior door handle and bent the window cage. Upon inspection, officers noted that multiple feet of wiring was pulled from the ceiling when Alex pulled the dome light down. He also destroyed the headliner of the squad car while tearing out the wires. An officer documented in the report that: “After the handcuffs were again moved behind Alex's back and secured to his belt, we escorted him back to the squad. Alex was uncooperative with going back into the squad and was attempting to brace his feet against the cage. Alex continued to actively resist attempts to control him by kicking his feet and tensing his upper body and writhing about trying to break free from the grasp of officers. Due to Alex's continued active resistance, I attempted to decentralize him to the ground by directing his upper body downward in a controlled descent. Alex, however, continued to actively resist and, in the process, wrapped his legs up with mine in an attempt to trip me. As a result, when Alex was assisted to the ground, he was able to trip me and I ended up on top of him. Alex was then stabilized on the ground while I applied a kick-stop restraint to his ankles.” Once the ankle restraints were applied, Alex continued to yell profanities toward officers and advised that he was not going to stand or walk. Officers began carrying him to the squad, and an officer noted that: “As we attempted to assist him into the proper seated position, I felt Alex reaching for my groin, specifically my genitals and attempting to squeeze. I was able to reposition and prevent him from squeezing hard enough to cause pain. I could feel Alex actively kicking at the deputies who were to my left and behind me. Ultimately, Alex's continued active resistance led Deputy Messer to utilize his Taser in the drive-stun mode to overcome Alex's continued combative resistance. We were then able to assist Alex to the proper seated position and seat belt him in place. “ After being secured in the squad car again, Alex continued to damage the squad by biting the wires which were exposed from the ceiling. As a result, officers placed a protective spit-hood and helmet over his head to prevent further damage and prevent a possible injury. As a deputy was finishing applying the protective helmet, Alex threw his head forward and headbutted the deputy in the mouth area. The deputy immediately recoiled back and appeared to be in pain. Alex was then transported to the hospital for medical clearance and for a blood draw for the OWI investigation. Upon arrival at the hospital, Alex mentioned kicking at a nurse but was overall cooperative. The blood results later revealed that Alex had a .118 BAC. After being medically cleared, Alex was transported to the Columbia County Jail and released to jail staff. Alex was charged with Criminal Damage to Property (Over $2500), Battery or Threat to Judge, Prosecutor, or Law Enforcement Officer, Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, OWI (2nd), Disorderly Conduct, and other charges. He was found guilty for Operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration (2nd offense), and the rest of his charges were dismissed. Alex was sentenced to 18 months of probation and ordered to pay $1184 in fines. This video is for educational purposes only.
