On December 27, 2025, California Highway Patrol officers observed a silver Pontiac sedan weaving across the centerline on Elk Valley Road near Howland Hill Road in Crescent City, California. The vehicle also displayed expired registration and an inoperable brake light. The Officers conducted a traffic stop in the Mission Impossible parking lot and made contact with the driver. During the investigation, officers observed several objective signs consistent with impairment, including slow speech, watery eyes, sweating, and dilated pupils. The driver initially stated she had not consumed alcohol or drugs. Field sobriety tests were administered, during which officers documented multiple indicators of impairment, including difficulty following instructions, balance issues, and failure to complete the tests as demonstrated. A preliminary alcohol screening test was conducted and returned a result of 0.000% BAC. Based on the totality of the investigation, officers formed the opinion that the driver was operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs. The driver was taken into custody without further incident. During a search following the arrest and conducting vehicle inventory, officers located suspected controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and other items including a hypodermic needle and multiple tools. Evidence later tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl. The driver was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital for medical clearance and later booked into the Del Norte County Jail on the following charges: • CVC 23152(f) — Driving under the influence of drugs • H&S 11364(a) — Possession of drug paraphernalia • H&S 11350(a) — Possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl) • H&S 11377(a) — Possession of methamphetamine • PC 466 — Possession of burglary tools • PC 22210 — Possession of a billy club California Highway Patrol Officers involved: Officer D.
