✅ This video obtained via Public Records Request On August 17, 2023, at approximately 1:30 am, I, Trooper Miguel Gutierrez, was on patrol, traveling northbound on Interstate 75 at mile marker 120 in marked patrol vehicle FHP (1032). I observed a white Mercedes sedan bearing Florida tag (BX22MS) traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic with a wanton disregard for the safety of other vehicles on the roadway. I accelerated and continued to observe the driving pattern for approximately half a mile. I maintained speeds over 130 mph as the vehicle continued to pull away and change lanes. I then activated my emergency lights and siren and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the vehicle continued north, increasing speed, and attempted to exit on the northbound Alico Road exit. The vehicle failed to negotiate a right turn and collided with the median at a high rate of speed, coming to rest straddling the median. I exited my vehicle and observed the driver, later identified as Derrick Jason Weaver Jr. by his Florida Identification Card, exit the driver-side door and flee on foot across the westbound lane of Alico Rd, across a wooded area, and then enter the shopping plaza parking lot north of Alico Rd. Two other occupants of the vehicle also fled on foot. I began to pursue Weaver and requested assistance from the Lee County Sheriff's Office. I was quickly assisted by the Sheriff's Office, who located Weaver in the parking lot and brought him back to the scene where the vehicle had collided. Upon Weaver's arrival on the scene, I placed him in the back of my agency vehicle. A query of Weaver through dispatch showed that his driver's license was Suspended/Revoked/Cancelled/Disqualified. Dispatch subsequently informed me that Weaver had an active warrant for his arrest in Lee County for Reckless Driving, Fleeing and Eluding, and Driving with a Suspended/Revoked License.
