On May 27, 2023, Oceanport police responded to a traffic collision. A woman claimed she was hit from behind by a vehicle who fled the scene and the force of the collision pushed her into a Land Rover that was stopped in front of her. However, the rear end of the woman's car had no visible damage to indicate she was hit from behind. In the video, you can see skid marks at the point of impact. In addition, the father of the young man driving the Land Rover approached Sgt. Grimes and indicated that he believed the woman had been drinking. She was eventually asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests (FSTs) and she was arrested for DUI. She failed to provide an adequate breath sample at the police station and was subsequently issued four citations. Several months later, she pled guilty to driving under the influence and the remaining charges were dismissed. She was fined, had her license suspended, and was ordered to install an Interlock Ignition Device on her vehicle.
