It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On April 7, 2024, around 2:43 in the morning, Sergeant Michael Jordan from the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office spotted a silver 2023 Toyota Corolla driving unusually slow. The vehicle was swerving across lanes as it headed east on Main Street. Sergeant Jordan pulled the car over on E Main Street near SE Forest Way. The driver was identified as 20-year-old Paige Dominy. While talking to Paige, the officer noticed the smell of alcohol and signs of impairment. He asked her how much she had been drinking, but she insisted she hadn’t had anything to drink. Shortly after Deputy Cory Alcantar arrived to assist, Paige was asked to step out of the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this, Sergeant Jordan saw her eyes struggling to follow smoothly, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and nystagmus starting before 45 degrees. He did not see any vertical nystagmus. Next was the Walk and Turn test. Paige made improper turns and failed to count her steps correctly. The final task was the One Leg Stand. She didn’t lift her foot properly and put it down before the test was finished. After these exercises, Paige was offered a portable breath test (PBT). It showed her blood alcohol content at 0.132%, well over the 0.02% legal limit for drivers under 21. Her reckless driving, alcohol smell, trouble with the tests, and PBT results led to her arrest for DUI. Sergeant Jordan took her to the Pullman Police Department for booking. She first asked to speak to an attorney. After her talk, he gave her the implied consent warning, and she agreed to take breath samples. Her first tests showed BAC levels of 0.122 and 0.123. The second tests were 0.119 and 0.122.
