On April 18, 2024, Police Officers with the Ohio State University Police Department responded to a dorm parking lot after receiving a call about a reckless driver who had crashed into a parked van. Officer Brown arrived and interviewed witnesses. They identified an 18-year-old woman as the driver of the at-fault vehicle. Officer Brown interviewed the woman, who admitted to consuming alcohol. As a result, she was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. After the tests, she was placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). She was transported to the Ohio Highway Patrol station, where she agreed to provide breath samples. The lowest of the two samples registered 0.119% BAC. She received a citation for (1) OVI; (2) Having a Prohibited BAC over 0.08%; and (3) Failure to Control. On June 20, 2024, she pleaded guilty to the OVI charge and the other 2 charges were dismissed. She was fined $650 plus court costs. In addition, she was placed on probation for 6 months, her license was suspended for 1 year, and she was ordered to complete a 3-day Driver's Intervention Program.
