On February 21, 2025, the Lacey Police Department received several phone calls regarding a reckless driver. Officer Evers located the vehicle after it hit several curbs, damaged its tires and rims, and deployed every airbag in the vehicle. Behind the wheel was a heavily intoxicated 65-year-old woman who initially denied consuming any alcohol. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests and she refused. She was then asked if she would provide a breath sample and she initially said yes, but then refused when the portable breath testing device was presented to her. She was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and was transported to the Lacey Police Department. She was given many, many attempts to submit an adequate breath sample for an evidential breath test, but all of the samples came up short on volume. Ultimately, a blood warrant was obtained and she was transported to a local medical facility. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
