On April 11, 2026, NYPD detectives responded to a violent machete attack inside the 42nd Street–Grand Central subway station in New York City. According to police, the suspect had already slashed three victims before confronting responding detectives while still armed with a machete. Body worn camera footage released by the NYPD shows detectives repeatedly ordering the suspect to drop the weapon as he moved erratically through the subway platform. During the confrontation, the suspect shouted disturbing statements including “Shoot me” and “I am Lucifer” before advancing toward detectives with the machete raised. Moments later, detectives opened fire. This video includes real police bodycam footage, and use of force review involving the NYPD officer involved shooting.
