On Saturday, June 24, 2023, deputies responded to a retail store in reference to a major shoplifting incident in progress. Loss prevention personnel observed three individuals working in concert to conceal high-value merchandise, including entire racks of children's clothing, into various bags and a suitcase. The group utilized a "staging" tactic, systematically moving large quantities of items to different corners of the store to facilitate a rapid exit. The total value of the merchandise involved was over $5,700. When law enforcement attempted to detain the group in the parking lot, one individual ignored commands and fled on foot. A deputy successfully pursued and apprehended the suspect after a brief foot chase. The individual was arrested and charged with Grand Theft and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
