On September 15, 2025, a California Highway Patrol officer in Lassen County initiated a traffic enforcement stop after observing a motorcycle traveling without headlights during nighttime hours and at an unsafe speed. The motorcycle failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens and accelerated away, leading officers on a pursuit through Westwood, California. The rider was speeding through residential areas at about 50 miles per hour before losing control and sliding on gravel to dodge an oncoming train near Third Street and Ash Street. The rider jumped up and fled on foot following the crash and was later located hiding beneath tree branches near a commercial area. Officers took the rider into custody after issuing commands and securing him in handcuffs. During the arrest, officers found a clear plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine concealed in a cigarette carton. A subsequent investigation also revealed the motorcycle had expired registration, fraudulent registration stickers, no insurance, no operational lights, and was being operated without a valid motorcycle endorsement. The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment of crash-related injuries before being booked into the Lassen County Jail on the following charges: • CVC 2800.2(a) — Felony evading a peace officer • PC 3455 — Committing a new crime while on post-release community supervision • H&S 11377(a) — Possession of a controlled substance • PC 148(a)(1) — Resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer • CVC 4463(a) — Fraudulent registration • CVC 12500(b) — Driving without a valid motorcycle endorsement • CVC 16028(a) — Failure to provide proof of insurance • CVC 22350 — Unsafe speed for conditions • CVC 27803(b) — Operating a motorcycle without an approved helmet • CVC 24250 — Driving without lights during darkness California Highway Patrol Officers involved: Officer R.
