On March 7, 2023, Las Cruces Police Officer Prado responded to a middle school on a report of a drunk 13-year-old female student. The student was allegedly hiding a miniature alcohol bottle down her pants. When Officer Prado arrived, the girl was very defiant and was using a lot of profanity. Officer Prado eventually got tired of her antics and took her to the ground to handcuff her. She was cited for multiple offenses, including a felony for assaulting a school official. When Sgt. Melendez spoke with the girl's mother, she was in denial that her daughter could act that way. A few weeks later, the mother and daughter called the police department to file a complaint against Officer Prado. Because the girl is a juvenile, no information is available on the outcome of her case.
