Bodycam footage from the March 17 DUI arrest of Lumberton Township, New Jersey, Mayor Gina LaPlaca captures her struggling to complete a field sobriety test outside her home. Initially, LaPlaca denied consuming alcohol, telling an officer, "No, I'm good," when asked if she had been drinking. However, about a minute later, when questioned again, she admitted to having alcohol. Following the arrest, LaPlaca has faced mounting calls to resign, with critics highlighting that she was allegedly driving under the influence with her young son in the vehicle. The footage shows LaPlaca removing her son from a car seat in her blue BMW after arriving home from school. While one officer stayed with the child, others questioned her and conducted the sobriety test. The video also reveals damage to the side of her car, including scratches and a nearly destroyed passenger-side mirror. When asked about the damage, LaPlaca stated she did not recall hitting anything. A witness reportedly filmed LaPlaca driving erratically before calling the police and providing her license plate number. Authorities tracked her down at her home just as she was arriving. She then failed the field sobriety test and was taken into custody. Before leaving the scene, officers searched her vehicle and discovered an open water bottle containing alcohol. Additional footage from the holding cell shows a visibly distressed LaPlaca agreeing to a breathalyzer test while simultaneously requesting that an officer contact Township Police Chief Anthony Nippins.
