She saw a blue 2024 Nissan Kicks speeding westbound at 55 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. A white Toyota Prius was following close behind. Officer DeVries turned on her siren and lights to pull the car over. The Nissan slowed, and both vehicles stopped at Ogden Avenue and I-355. She approached the Nissan and spoke with the driver, 25-year-old Alexis Wroblewski. As she talked, Officer DeVries smelled alcohol and saw an open High Noon Seltzer inside the car. Alexis said she was heading home after a Chicago Bulls game. The officer noticed signs of impairment and Alexis admitted she had been drinking earlier. DeVries asked Alexis to recite the alphabet from “E” to “W,” but she couldn’t do it properly. She also failed to count backwards from “56” to “49.” Deputy Kanis from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office arrived to help. Alexis was asked to step out and do some sobriety tests. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). Officer DeVries saw her eyes struggle to follow smoothly, with jerking at maximum deviation. Nystagmus appeared before 45 degrees, and vertical nystagmus showed in both eyes. Next was the Walk and Turn test. Alexis didn’t touch heel-to-toe correctly, turned the wrong way, and didn’t keep her arms at her sides. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Alexis failed to raise her foot properly and didn’t count correctly. After the exercises, DeVries gave her a Preliminary Breath Test. The result was a BAC of 0.181%. Her driving was bad, she admitted to drinking, and her open container and poor test results led DeVries to arrest her for DUI. Alexis was handcuffed and taken to the police station. At the station, she was read the Warning to Motorist form and agreed to give breath samples. The breathalyzer showed a BAC of 0.165%, more than double the legal limit. She told officers she drank vodka and tequila earlier that night. After processing, she was released around 3:45 AM and caught an Uber home. She faced several charges. The first was driving under the influence with a BAC of 0.08 or more. She also faced charges for drinking while driving, open alcohol in her vehicle, and speeding. 0:22 she almost made it home.
