On February 20, 2024, Brian Davie — a former Wells Fargo branch manager in Battle Ground, Washington, who held the position from March 2014 until his termination in June 2019 — was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to bank fraud under 18 U.S.C. § 1344 and aggravated identity theft under 18 U.S.C. § 1028A in U.S. District Court in Tacoma, Western District of Washington. Davie, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary Dillon and announced by U.S. Attorney Tessa M. Gorman, used his managerial access to initiate unauthorized cash withdrawals, money transfers, and cashier's checks against the accounts of eight identified victims — deliberately targeting elderly customers with dementia, limited English proficiency, or diminished capacity to monitor their finances. He concealed the scheme by cycling large cashier's checks through progressively smaller denominations to stay below federal reporting thresholds, and funneled stolen funds into an account established in the name of a relative's business. He also deliberately failed to file paperwork that would have given family members co-signer visibility into the fraudulent transactions. The scheme ran for approximately five years and totaled $1,279,840. One victim had more than $566,000 stolen from her retirement accounts alone — savings accumulated over decades — with no family member able to see what was happening because Davie had ensured no one else was ever added to her accounts.
