On August 27, 2026, an Arkansas State Police traffic stop on Interstate 55 near the 55-mile marker escalated into a violent struggle and foot pursuit involving Trooper Daniel Young and a driver identified as Pedro Gonzalez. According to Trooper Young’s report, Gonzalez was stopped while driving a light blue Chevrolet Equinox. During the stop, Young requested a driver’s license and proof of insurance. Gonzalez reportedly provided a Mexican passport and an insurance card that had expired in March. The report states that an ICE agent advised Trooper Young that Gonzalez had overstayed his visa and issued a detainer. When Young attempted to take Gonzalez into custody, Gonzalez allegedly resisted and repeatedly attempted to reach for the trooper’s firearm. A physical struggle followed. According to the report, Trooper Young used strikes and deployed his TASER multiple times as Gonzalez continued to resist. The TASER reportedly caused temporary neuromuscular incapacitation before Gonzalez was able to break the wires and continue resisting. Two passengers also reportedly fled from the vehicle and ran toward a wooded area. Gonzalez allegedly continued fighting with the trooper before eventually fleeing on foot. The report states that he swung his belt at Trooper Young while running toward the woods and later assumed a fighting stance during another confrontation. Multiple law-enforcement agencies responded to assist with the search. Gonzalez and the two passengers were ultimately apprehended approximately five hours later. Gonzalez was transported to a hospital in Osceola before being transferred to UAMS in Little Rock.
