On the evening of June 30, 2024, police were dispatched to a tavern in Westfield, New Jersey, regarding a disruptive individual. According to restaurant staff, a female patron had initially visited the establishment, ordered a glass of wine, and left without any issues. However, she returned shortly after, appearing heavily intoxicated and acting belligerent. When staff informed her she was no longer welcome, a verbal altercation began. Responding officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and help the woman find transportation home. Instead, the woman became highly uncooperative, shouted profanities at the police, and began pulling down the top of her dress. The situation escalated further as she repeatedly ran into the middle of the street, disrupting traffic and pedestrians. After threatening to punch the officers on the scene, she was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. She was issued a complaint summons for the offense These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
