#CDLlife January 26, 2022 morning commute in northwest Indiana on I80/i90 when - according to police - the minivan on the right lost its traction and began sliding and ultimately colliding with the FedEx tractor trailer. The low temp was -1 degree Fahrenheit, which makes salt largely ineffective. Video replay suggests it’s possible the FedEx truck driver may have slightly overcorrected but it’s worth keeping in mind his initial trajectory was into oncoming lanes This video was released by Indiana State Police who noted there were several other crashes resulting in huge travel delays. The dashcam is a reminder of how quickly situations can escalate in winter environments, especially when temperatures drop below 20’. Driving just a little slower can improve traction & reaction times.
