Around the same time, another caller reported a suspected drunk driver in the area. Albanese activated his lights and pulled the vehicle over. He spoke with the driver, Kathleen Morales, who said she was returning from a meeting. Her speech sounded slurred, and she struggled to locate her documents. Suspecting alcohol use, Albanese asked her to step outside while Sergeant Richard Gil arrived to assist. Morales admitted she had been drinking. Officer Nicholas Bagan conducted sobriety tests, including the HGN test. Albanese then gave her the One Leg Stand test, but she could not raise her foot as instructed. Her poor driving, the smell of alcohol, her admission, and failed tests led to her arrest for drunk driving. Under John's Law, her car was held for 12 hours. At the station, Morales heard the required statement and agreed to a breath test. The result showed a blood alcohol level of 0.23%, nearly three times the legal limit. She said she had been drinking at Darby Road Public House. After processing, she was released to a sober adult, and both signed a warning form. Albanese cited her for several offenses, including drunk and reckless driving. Court records show Morales had a prior DUI arrest in Harrison, New Jersey, in July 2023.
