On April 20, 2025, University of Central Florida Police Officer Mattingly observed a vehicle speeding and driving recklessly. By the time he could turn his patrol car around and catch up to the vehicle, it has driven up a curb and narrowly missed hitting a pole. The vehicle was being driven by a 29-year-old woman, who claimed she was caring for her drunk 21-year-old sister. Officer Otero arrived to administer field sobriety testing on the driver. Due to her level of intoxication, she was unable to complete the walk and turn and one-leg stand tests. She was placed under arrest and was transported to the Orange County DUI center for breath testing. Her results were 0.198% and 0.196% BAC. She was charged with Driving Under the Influence. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
