On September 30, 2025, police in Joliet, Illinois, were dispatched to a BP gas station in the wake of a staff altercation with an alleged trespasser. As captured on surveillance video, a woman entered the convenience store to fill a tumbler with hot coffee. When an employee intervened, the woman, who staff claims was trespassed, doused her in scalding hot coffee, resulting in second degree burns and hospitalization. When the alleged assailant was approached by police, the suspect ran off through traffic to avoid arrest, much to the exasperation of the responding police officers.
