Akron, Ohio | On Friday, July 12, 2024, an Akron Police Department officer responded to a shoplifting report at a Dick's Sporting Goods store, where store management had observed a female suspect stuffing merchandise into her backpack. When the officer confronted the suspect and ordered her to place her hands behind her back, she refused, broke away from the officer's grip, and fled on foot through the store. The officer pursued and brought the suspect to the ground, where she actively resisted arrest until an assisting officer arrived to help place her in handcuffs. A search revealed multiple Nike clothing items and Timberland boots hidden in her backpack and sweatpants, totaling $1,084.97 in stolen merchandise. The suspect was arrested and charged with Shoplifting/Theft, Obstructing Official Business, and Resisting Arrest, and she was subsequently transported to a local jail facility.
