On January 19, 2024, in Baraboo, Wisconsin, an on duty officer initiated a traffic stop due to a cars windows tint being quote "excessive". Officers smelled the odor of marijuana immediately when the driver, identified as Kayla, rolled down the window. The officer checked the tint on the window and determined it was darker than it was legally allowed to be. The officer inquired about the smell of marijuana and the passenger stated she had a medical card from out of state. Officers had probable cause to search the vehicle due to the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. When asked to get out of the car, the driver stated she did not give consent to the officers to search her car, however, due to the probably cause, they did not need consent. Kayla stated she wanted to call her husband multiple times before getting out of the vehicle. Officers eventually pulled Kayla out of the vehicle and arrested Kayla for her disorderly conduct. She was taken to jail where she was booked. Kayla was charged with disorderly conduct and possession of THC. She was found guilty of disorderly conduct. There are other charges pending for this incident including OWI 1st and refusing to take test for intoxication after arrest.
