Police bodycam footage from Vancouver, Washington: officers answering a burglary call pull up to a man with a knife walking toward a neighbor in her driveway, and when he ignores commands he runs at the next arriving officer. This police bodycam footage from the Vancouver Police Department shows the officer-involved shooting on NE 48th Street from three body cameras - the first officer's arrival, the standoff with the man on the lawn still holding two knives, and the moment officers move in. Real bodycam footage, no narration added - the officers carry the video. WHAT HAPPENED May 26, 2026, about 6:35 AM. A woman in the 10900 block of NE 48th Street calls 911: she woke up to someone breaking her windows and believes it is her former partner, who had tried to break in a few days earlier. She gets out and waits in her car, and the man gets into the home. When police arrive, they see him holding a knife and walking toward a neighbor who is standing in her driveway. He refuses commands to drop the knife and keeps moving toward the woman, and Officer Alexander Zaferis fires. The man then runs toward another arriving officer and nearby homes, and Officer Zaferis fires again, striking him. He goes down on a front lawn with two knives still in reach while officers hold behind their patrol cars and give commands, then move in, handcuff him and begin first aid. OUTCOME The man was taken to the hospital. No officers or residents were injured. Officer Zaferis, 29, has been with Vancouver PD since July 2022 and was placed on standard administrative leave. The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations is investigating the shooting; the case goes to the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney's Office when complete. The man has not been publicly identified.
