K9 Riko Charges Suspect and Gets Stabbed in the Neck — Police Open Fire A disturbance call in Hurricane, Utah quickly turned into a life-or-death situation when suspect José Pascasio fled from police, crashed, and then forced his way into a residential home. When officers discovered that adults and children were still inside the house, K9 Riko was deployed to help take the suspect into custody. But the moment Riko charged toward José, the suspect suddenly attacked the police dog with a knife, causing catastrophic injuries to Riko's neck. Seconds later, officers at the scene opened fire to stop the threat. But the incident was far from over. Riko had lost a massive amount of blood and suffered severe damage to an artery, vein, and his trachea. With his K9 partner fighting for his life, Officer Eric made the decision to rush Riko to an emergency veterinary center in Las Vegas. Another police K9 named Enzo was even brought in to donate blood during Riko's emergency treatment. Then something remarkable happened. Riko survived, kept his leg, and after months of recovery was eventually able to return to duty. This video covers the full incident — from the police pursuit and the moment K9 Riko entered the home, to the officer-involved shooting and the desperate race to save the police dog's life.
