On July 5, 2024, in San Diego, California, a Highway Patrol Officer was parked on the George Cooke overpass, monitoring traffic on Interstate 15. The officer used his LIDAR device to confirm an Infiniti SUV's speed of 100 mph. Upon catching up with the SUV, the officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield and briefly accelerated to over 120 mph, weaving through traffic before abruptly stopping and pulling over to the right shoulder. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted due to the evasion. Once the driver was detained, officers discovered four additional occupants in the vehicle, including an 8-year-old child.
