The Nissan turned onto Ringwood Avenue northbound, but the driver made a wide turn into the southbound lane and nearly hit another vehicle head-on. As the Nissan continued north, Sergeant Bartlett activated his emergency lights and stopped it near Carr Street. He approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, identified as 25-year-old Erin Lime. While talking with her, Sergeant Bartlett smelled alcohol and noticed other signs of impairment. Patrolman Hector Alcantara arrived soon after to assist. Erin told Sergeant Bartlett that she had been drinking at Thatcher’s earlier that night. Because he suspected she was impaired, Sergeant Bartlett asked Erin to leave the vehicle and complete field sobriety exercises. During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, he observed a lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus before 45 degrees. Erin then performed the Walk and Turn test. She failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step and made an improper turn. During the One Leg Stand test, she did not raise her foot correctly and put it down before the test ended. Her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, her admission that she had been drinking, and her poor performance on the exercises led to her arrest for operating under the influence. Erin was taken to the Pompton Lakes Police Department for processing. Her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold under John’s Law. At the station, officers read Erin the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to provide breath samples. Her Alcotest results showed a BAC of 0.20%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After testing, Erin was released to her mother pending court. Her mother signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Erin’s behalf. Erin received four traffic tickets: Operating under the influence (39:4-50) Reckless driving (39:4-96) Careless driving (39:3-97) Failure to maintain lane (39:4-88B) Court records show that Erin pleaded guilty to operating under the influence on June 19, 2025. The plea required her to use an ignition interlock device for nine months, spend 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center, and pay $690 in fines. The other three citations were dismissed under the plea agreement. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
