ARN is back with the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama — and this episode takes us into parts of law enforcement we don’t normally get to see. The day starts with Deputy Matthews responding to a family dispute involving a man angry that his family won’t give him money for drugs. From there, Kent joins Corporal Smith inside the Metro Jail for a full shakedown, searching cells for contraband and getting a firsthand look at some of the creative ways inmates hide and move prohibited items. Back on patrol, Deputy Goldwire encounters a nervous driver with an expired tag, no valid license, and absolutely no interest in accepting a ride from the deputies — especially with our cameras rolling. But as the day continues, the tone changes. Multiple Autauga County deputies team up to search for a wanted man who appears to be watching them through his security cameras, before responding to a mother asking for help with her son, who is experiencing a serious mental health crisis. There are no handcuffs. No arrest. Just deputies, firefighters, medics, and a mother trying to get someone the help he needs. This episode is chaotic, funny, unpredictable, and at times incredibly human — and it shows a side of policing that rarely makes the headlines.
