It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Officer Jonathan Finze of the Wauconda Police Department noticed a white Hyundai on January 25, 2024, around 10:58 PM. The car swerved and drove on the shoulder northbound on Route 12 near N Old Rand Road. The driver continued to veer off the road by Case Road. Officer Finze then initiated a traffic stop. The driver pulled over to the shoulder. He spoke with the driver, Savanna Anderson. Savanna said she was driving home. She had been at a trivia night in Lake Zurich. She admitted to drinking three alcoholic beverages that evening. Officer Finze suspected she was impaired. Officer Donna Zorbas arrived to help. Officer Finze asked Savanna to take a breathalyzer test. Savanna refused to blow into the device. She agreed to get out of the car. She would perform field sobriety tests. Officer Finze began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. He observed six out of six signs of impairment. Next was the One Leg Stand test. Savanna could not lift her foot correctly. Counting to twenty took her thirty seconds. The third test was the Walk and Turn. Savanna did not step heel-to-toe. Her turn was incorrect. She raised her arms to keep her balance. The last test involved reciting the alphabet from F to U without pausing. She completed this test successfully. After the tests, Savanna was offered the breathalyzer again. She refused once more. Officer Finze arrested Savanna for driving under the influence. This decision was based on the smell of alcohol. It was also due to her signs of impairment. She admitted to drinking alcohol. She could not perform the sobriety tests well. She was handcuffed and placed in the patrol car. She was taken to the Wauconda Police Department. Officers later found open containers in her vehicle. At the police station, Savanna was read the Warning to Motorist. She then agreed to provide breath samples. Her breath test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.148%. This level is above the legal limit of 0.08%. After processing, she was released to her husband. She received summonses for her court date. These included charges for driving under the influence of alcohol. She also faces charges for transporting an open container. The summonses also listed operating an uninsured vehicle.
