FULL REPORT: On 11/23/24 I, Deputy C. Johnson was sitting at the stop sign at the intersection of Riverdale Rd and Adams Dr in Riverdale, Ga. While sitting at the stop sign, I observed a black Dodge Avenger with Ga tag CUW2363 with dark tint pass in front of me going north bound on Riverdale Rd. I then pull out and get behind the vehicle and observed that the vehicle also had no operating tag light. I then activate my lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle then turned down Poplar Springs Rd and the driver then proceeded to not attempt to pull over and began to flee in the vehicle. The vehicle then fled down Poplar Springs Rd and came to the intersection of Poplar Springs Rd and Hwy 85. The driver ran the stop sign at the Poplar Springs Rd and Hwy 85 intersection. The driver then turned left to go north bound on Hwy 85, once the driver was headed north on Hwy 85, he then made an abrupt improper U-turn in the grass median to go back south bound on Hwy 85. I then continued give chase on the vehicle, coming up to the intersection of Hwy 85 and Valley Hill Rd the driver swerved on the wrong side of the road to attempt to get away from me. The driver then ran the red light at the intersection of Hwy 85 and Valley Hill Rd and crashed head on into another vehicle. The vehicle that the suspect crashed into was a white Hyundai sedan with Ga tag ###### I then pull up to the crash and immediately get out of my vehicle and place the suspect at gun point while giving verbal commands. The suspect then got out of his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot away from the scene. I then gave chase on foot and pulled out my taser and fired both cartridges into the suspect's back. The taser was ineffective due to him having two thick jackets on. I was able to tackle the suspect in the bushes and get him into custody. The driver of fleeing vehicle was later identified as Mr. David Gilbert, and the driver of the victim's vehicle was identified as Ms. L. Harris. Ms. Harris was checked by other deputies and officers on scene until EMS was able to arrive. Ms. Harris was transported to Grady Hospital by the ambulance. Mr. Gilbert was transported to Henry Piedmont Hospital and seen by a doctor and then transported to the Clayton County Jail. Mr. Gilbert was advised on all 15 of his charges and handed over to Clayton County Jail staff. Also, while at the hospital Mr. Gilbert was alert and very coherent and did not want to take any scans or test, Mr. Gilbert signed an AMA and was released from the hospital. The entire encounter was captured by my body worn camera, no further action was taken at this time.
