Marco Flores (35) flees into Hollenbeck and Boyle Heights, crashes into a fence near Camulos and Garnet, and runs. During the foot chase he fires about 17 rounds at officers; one officer is hit in the chest and saved by his ballistic vest. Officers return fire and Flores is struck; he survived surgery. The LA County DA charged him with four counts of attempted murder of a police officer, seven counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, felony evading and felon in possession of a firearm. CASE 2 - Pacific Division, June 5, 2026 (4:15 AM). A cab driver reports being threatened at a drive-thru on W. Manchester Blvd. Officers find Thomas Hearn (45) in a parked car; he refuses to get out, drives off and leads a pursuit onto the northbound 405 Freeway, firing one round from the driver's window near the Howard Hughes Pkwy overpass. He stops near Centinela, steps out with a loaded 9mm Polymer80 "ghost gun" and ignores commands. Officers Jared Becerra and Emmanual Lopez fire; Hearn is struck and later pronounced deceased at a hospital. No officers or bystanders were hurt. LAPD Force Investigation Division and the Inspector General are reviewing both cases.
