On May 11, 2024 around 6:05 AM, Patrolman Randy Yevchak with the West Milford Police Department (NJ) responded to a motor vehicle crash at the Canistear Road Bridge Trestle involving a 2011 Honda Accord. The vehicle had severe front-end damage and airbag deployment, and a tow truck was already on scene. The driver, 21-year-old Alexis, said she struck the trestle while traveling south toward State Route 23. During the investigation, the officer detected the odor of alcohol and observed additional indicators of impairment. A bulge in her sweatshirt raised suspicion she was concealing something—she was later found with a mostly-empty 750ml bottle of Smirnoff Vodka. Alexis was asked to perform field sobriety exercises, including: • HGN (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus) (including signs consistent with high impairment) • Walk & Turn • One Leg Stand • Modified Romberg Balance Test Based on the crash, observations, and test performance, she was arrested for DWI. Her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Due to equipment issues, she was transported to the Bloomingdale Police Department for breath testing. The Alcotest result was BAC 0.18% (legal limit 0.08%). She was later released to a family member pending court. Summonses issued: • Operating under the influence (DWI) • Reckless driving • Traffic on marked lanes • Open container ✅ Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information).
