Today I’m going to be using obtained body cam video to highlight the actions of a Munster Police Officer on the Crime Suppression Unit better known as Munster Double Eight. I will set the scene up with this description of the incidents. It was Christmas Eve in the Region and police through out the area were responding to numerous theft calls at local retail stores. Munster Officers were responding to a shoplifting call ongoing at CVS in Munster located at Calumet & Main. Munster DoubleEight responded to CVS only to find the suspects had just fled the CVS. While he was taking the report and investigating the incident he utilized local technology and was able to track the suspect car that left CVS to possibly the Walgreens on Ridge & Indianapolis, according to the radio traffic. On arrival Double Eight found the suspect car as seen on video at CVS at Walgreens unoccupied and proceeded to box it in. While he was walking up to the store to confront the suspects a pursuit of St John theft suspects was racing northbound up Indianapolis Blvd with about 10 officers in pursuit. Realizing that he was in a great position to throw spikes Double Eight walked over to Indianapolis Blvd with a spike strip and alerted the incoming officers that spikes would be ready. Double Eight, a Schererville Officer, and a Highland Officer proceeded to spike the fleeing car for St John Officers successfully, stopping the car just down the road near the bridge at Wicker Park. Double Eight then casually walked back to Walgreens where the two CVS theft suspects were exiting the door and seeing all the chase commotion. Double Eight was able to detain both of those suspects successfully as well and found the shoplifted items in their vehicle. For this I applaud his efforts and the other officers once again for their determination all the way around on these cases! Four Illinois theft suspects were all apprehended.
