The car rolled through a stop sign at NE Merman Drive and NE Terre View Drive. He pulled up behind it and hit his lights for a stop. The driver was 21-year-old Daphne. She claimed she was the designated driver. She said she was dropping her passengers home from the bar. Olin smelled alcohol as they talked. He noticed signs of impairment too. He asked what she drank. At first, she said nothing. Out of the car, she confessed to a little booze that night. She swore it was not much. He grew suspicious and ordered field sobriety tests. The Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus came first. Olin saw all six clues of impairment. Next was Walk and Turn. Daphne missed heel-to-toe steps. Her turn went wrong. One Leg Stand finished it. She did not lift her foot right. It hit the ground too soon. She got a chance for a PBT next. It read 0.113% BAC. That beat the 0.08% limit. The stop sign violation sealed it. Plus the booze smell and failed tests. Olin arrested her for DUI. He took her to Pullman Police Department first. She agreed to breath tests there. The first showed IR 0.117 and EC 0.114. The second hit IR 0.119 and EC 0.118. Olin drove her to Whitman County Jail after. Jail staff took her in. They booked her, wrote a DUI citation under RCW 46.61.502, and let her go for court.
