On February 24, 1986, Sherri Rasmussen, a 29-year-old nurse, was killed inside her Van Nuys, California condo. Police called it a burglary gone wrong. Her father told detectives from the start that he knew a name, and the name belonged to a rookie LAPD officer. It took 23 years for anyone to act on it. This is Episode 2 of True Crime Documentary on File of Crime: one case, told start to finish, with respect for the people it happened to. It covers Sherri’s life, the bite-mark swab kept in storage for decades, the 2008 reinvestigation, the 2009 arrest, the 2012 trial, and the parole hearings that followed. 📌 Missed Episode 1? What Sherri’s father and others said about Stephanie Lazarus is reported as their account. Lazarus was convicted of first-degree murder in 2012, and her later statements are reported as her statements. The latest reporting we found says she remains in prison.
