It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On July 11, 2024, around 10:02 PM, Officer Jon Finze from the Wauconda Police Department received a report from Lake Zurich about a possible impaired driver near Route 12 and Route 22. Officer Finze spotted a vehicle matching the description as it approached Route 176 and turned onto it heading west. He watched the vehicle for a while and saw it nearly hit a curb. He decided to pull the car over near Brown Street, and the driver eventually parked in a lot near McDonald's. The driver was identified as Amanda Daiello. She told Officer Finze she was on her way to McDonald's and then mentioned she was heading home after eating with friends at Cooper’s Hawk. Amanda also admitted to doing a wine tasting earlier before going to the restaurant. While talking to her, Officer Finze noticed signs that she might be impaired. Because of this, he asked her to step out of the car to perform field sobriety tests. Officer Finze began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. He observed all six signs indicating impairment. Next, Amanda did the Walk and Turn test. She missed heel-to-toe contact, lost her balance while turning, and took too many or too few steps. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Amanda failed to keep her foot raised properly and put it down too soon. After the tests, Amanda was offered to take a portable breath test, but she refused. Because of the smell of alcohol on her and her signs of impairment, her earlier admission of drinking, and her poor performance on the tests, Officer Finze arrested her for DUI. She was handcuffed and placed in the patrol car. Officer Pet drove her to the Wauconda Police Department. At the station, the officer read her the Warning to Motorist form, but Amanda refused to give a breath sample. After processing her, she was released with two tickets, which called her to appear in court. The tickets were for driving under the influence of alcohol and for improper lane usage. 46:40 left without your glasses, know what else you didn't bring?
