You might remember Kathleen “Katie” Sorensen when she went viral after creating an Instagram video that sparked a lot of alarm. Katie visited a Michaels craft store in Petaluma, California, on Monday, December 7, 2020. That day, according to Katie, a male and female couple tried to kidnap her two children. Katie made a call to police that same day, and met cops at the police station. Her full 911 call and bodycam video from that day is included in this video. Days later, Katie took to Instagram and created her viral video. The Dad Challenge Podcast has most all of that video: https://www.youtube.com/@thedcp/search?query=sorensen I’ve also included a portion of it in this video. Katie added details to her Instagram story that she didn’t initially tell police: Namely, Katie claimed that the man reached for her child’s stroller. Well, 4 million views later, Katie found herself in hot water. She turned off her comments and stopped responding to calls. That’s why when cops showed up at her California home on December 14, 2020, they told her they’d been trying to contact her. At the start of the full bodycam video included in this video from that day, you can hear one officer ask the other if Katie will even let them inside. Katie sits outside with the police officers and recounts her story again. Her husband eventually shows up and tells her she should answer her phone. Her husband takes their agitated son from Katie, so she can talk with police without distractions. Officer McGovern makes it clear that some of the things Katie told him (or didn’t mention) already don’t line up with the video surveillance footage. For example, Sadie and Eddie Martinez, the couple in question whom Katie would’ve gladly pressed charges against, didn’t actually follow Katie around the store, as she claimed: https://laist.com/news/criminal-justice/one-womans-quest-to-bring-the-karen-who-falsely-accused-her-of-attempted-kidnapping-to-justice They didn’t even leave the store together, holding hands in a weird way, like Katie claimed. Instead, Sadie stayed behind to chit-chat with the cashier and attempt to use a coupon. They didn’t follow Katie into the store, but entered 5 minutes before she did, and they didn’t circle her vehicle ominously as she claimed. Instead, it seems Sadie and Eddie had just come to Michael’s to buy a baby Jesus for their Christmas manger. They left the store and apparently bemoaned the fact that one of their favorite eateries was closed. I guess Eddie may have thrown a hand up in frustration. This is the action Katie says she “misinterpreted” as grabbing for her child’s stroller. Katie’s back on Instagram in 2024, with little remorse Katie has returned, but instead of being contrite about telling officers she would indeed press charges against the innocent couple, which would have sent them to prison for decades if falsely convicted, she’s trying to repair her own main-character reputation. “The Karen who cried kidnapping” is the title of an Elle magazine article about Katie that she referenced in a new Instagram video from September 23, 2024, included in this video. “The last time I shared a story online I went to jail for that,” Katie says, claiming she felt her children were in danger on December 7, 2020. “I was honest in my recollection of events,” she claims, without elaborating on the details that investigators noticed didn’t match up with reality when they viewed surveillance videos in their attempts to capture these alleged dangerous “rough-looking” people, as Katie called the Martinez couple. Katie even read and displayed her statement from a court document, wherein she admitted her children weren’t in danger that day. But Katie also bemoaned the fact that she allowed police into her home and didn’t have a lawyer present. She was found guilty of filing a false police report, but she never admits to lying. Katie claims she is just an advocate for her family and alluded to some “criminal history” of all involved in the case. Katie doesn’t just come right out and say what she’s talking about. What criminal history? And how would Katie have known any of that on the day she was in Michael’s? Katie goes on to claim that she was vilified from the beginning. “An apology could have been used against me to criminalize me,” she said. Katie looks forward to finally having a voice after 4 years of being silenced, but doesn’t specify where she plans to detail the story that just has so many nuances. I noticed she goes by “Kate Anne Sorensen” now on Instagram, but I couldn’t find a YouTube channel with that name. Instead, portions of the newly-released bodycam footage have swelled to 1.3-million views and counting: https://youtu.be/4wQ-473_WNA?si=_ALUxva-g6T3NsO0 Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOdH5V1hktXOmjh3q-pK3vQ/join
