An officer's routine check of a disabled vehicle quickly uncovers a shocking level of driver impairment. Responding to a disabled 2020 Toyota SUV with a flat tire, Sergeant Matthew Gajewski made contact with the driver, who exhibited slurred speech and a distinct odor of alcohol. Despite the driver's denials, her refusal to provide requested documents and subsequent inability to adequately perform field sobriety exercises—including failing to follow instructions on the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, struggling with the Walk and Turn test, and stumbling during the One Leg Stand test after only 21 seconds—led to her arrest for driving under the influence. After being transported to police headquarters, breath samples indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.332%, more than four times the legal limit.
