On March 4th, 2024, Rayshawn Darnell Pruitt — a 14-year NYPD detective assigned to the 12th Precinct in the Bronx — was arrested and charged with 9 federal counts including Hobbs Act robbery conspiracy, use of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, and obstruction of justice after a 16-month FBI wiretap investigation revealed he had organized, directed, and participated in a six-man crew responsible for at least 11 armed robberies targeting narcotics dealers and stash houses across the Bronx and upper Manhattan. Pruitt used his access to NYPD patrol scheduling systems and a department-issued radio to feed real-time law enforcement location data to his crew during active robberies, allowing them to evade responding units. The scheme generated an estimated $1.47 million in stolen cash and narcotics across three years. Among the victims: Yolanda Ferris, a 41-year-old home health aide who happened to be present during the Mott Haven stash house hit and was pistol-whipped so severely she required reconstructive facial surgery — she had no connection to narcotics and was simply in the wrong apartment.
