Jacob Armada was taken into custody on Nov. 29 with the help of a police K9 hours after firing a weapon at officers at a south Sacramento apartment complex, police said. Armada was treated for “minor injuries” as a result of the K9 arrest then booked at the Sacramento County main jail on charges that include the attempted murder of police officers, assaulting a police K9, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. According to the police account, officers responded to the 6200 block of Lemon Hill Avenue on Nov. 28 after reports about a man brandishing a firearm. The witness dashcam video shows a man holding what appears to be a firearm. A 911 caller warns that the man with a skateboard was waving a gun and “dancing in the street.” Police said that witnesses in the area led them to an apartment complex where they saw Armada walking up the stairs to the second floor of an apartment breezeway. According to police, “officers began to exit their vehicles and give commands. Armada immediately turned and pointed his weapon at an officer, and they exchanged gunfire.” The video shows an officer firing up the stairs and later, the suspect walking back down the stairs and firing his gun. No one was hurt in the gunfire, though one officer who initially reported being hit instead had a round pierce his pants, narrowly missing the officer's leg. Police said that Armada fled the scene uninjured and was found within a search perimeter after eight hours. “After multiple unsuccessful attempts asking Armada to surrender, he was taken into custody with assistance from a police K9,” police said. Police said that Armada's gun was later recovered.
