On March 14, 2026, CHP 911 received a report of a potentially impaired driver traveling with an infant. Yurok Tribal Police located and stopped the Suburban near the Golden Bear Bridge on Highway 101 and State Route 169. A CHP officer responded to investigate the driver. The driver said an argument with her partner led her to leave him in Orick and begin driving back toward Oregon. She reported consuming one White Claw earlier that day while she was a passenger. The officers detected the odor of alcohol and observed the driver having difficulty performing the field sobriety tests as instructed. The driver’s partner, who is also the infant’s father, arrived at the traffic stop to pick up his daughter and make arrangements for the SUV. The preliminary alcohol screening tests returned readings of .16% and .158%. Following her arrest, two chemical breath samples each registered .15%. The driver was arrested and booked into the Del Norte County Jail on the following charges: • CVC 23152(a) — Driving under the influence of alcohol. • CVC 23152(b) — Driving with a BAC of 0.08% or higher. • PC 273a(a) — Child endangerment. • CVC 16028(a) — Failure to provide evidence of financial responsibility.
