Police in Lake in the Hills, Illinois arrested a man after an incident in which authorities say a police officer and a paramedic were assaulted. According to officials, 53-year-old Mitchel High was taken into custody following a July 1 incident involving both domestic violence and attacks on first responders. Authorities say the situation began when High allegedly kicked a household member in the face, causing visible injuries. When police and emergency personnel responded, investigators say High struck a Lake in the Hills police officer in the face and also hit an Algonquin-Lake in the Hills firefighter/paramedic in the arm. He is also accused of threatening another paramedic and making aggressive motions that caused the responder to fear being attacked. High was later charged with two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of domestic battery, and one count of aggravated assault. A judge set bond at $15,000, which High later posted before being released the following day. As part of his bond conditions, the court ordered High to surrender all firearms while the case proceeds. He was scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 19.
