Incident: On January 10th, 2026, Sterling Heights Police Officers responded to a Walmart in Sterling Heights, Michigan, regarding a reported shoplifting suspect accused of stealing a bottle of beard oil. Upon making contact with the suspect, he suddenly fled on foot, leading officers on a pursuit through nearby businesses and wooded areas. After officers temporarily lost sight of the suspect, additional units responded to assist with the search. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect running toward a nearby river, where officers later discovered discarded clothing and shoes believed to belong to him. A K9 unit was called in and began tracking the suspect using the scent from the recovered clothing. As officers maintained a perimeter in the area, another responding officer eventually located a male matching the suspect’s description. When officers attempted to detain him, the situation quickly turned physical as the suspect resisted arrest before ultimately being taken into custody. While officers initially believed they had arrested a routine shoplifting suspect, investigators later made a shocking discovery after obtaining his fingerprints. Authorities confirmed the suspect was wanted by the Knoxville Police Department in connection to a double homicide investigation stemming from a triple shooting that occurred two months earlier in Knoxville, Tennessee. According to investigators, four men had been traveling from Detroit to Atlanta in a rental Ford Bronco with Michigan plates when the shooting occurred along Interstate I-640. Three of the men were shot during the incident, two fatally, while a third victim survived with critical injuries. Knoxville homicide detectives spent weeks investigating the case, recovering the abandoned rental vehicle in Kentucky, conducting numerous interviews, and analyzing cellphone records before coordinating with the U.S. Marshals Service in an effort to locate the fugitive. A Knox County grand jury later returned a 17-count indictment against the suspect, including two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of felony murder, and one count of attempted first-degree murder connected to the surviving victim. Following his arrest in Michigan, the suspect was extradited back to Tennessee by the U.S. Marshals Service to face charges connected to the double homicide investigation.
