A routine traffic stop quickly turned into a DUI investigation after an officer observed a driver speeding and running a red turn arrow. As the conversation continued, the officer noticed inconsistent answers, slurred speech, and other signs that raised concerns about possible impairment. The driver was asked to perform standardized field sobriety exercises, but repeatedly delayed the process and declined to cooperate. Based on his observations, the officer placed her under arrest for DUI. During the investigation, officers also discovered an open alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle. Although the driver initially agreed to provide a breath sample, she later refused after Florida's implied consent warning was read, adding another significant legal issue to the case. According to court records, the driver was charged with DUI, resisting an officer without violence, possession of an open container while driving, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of cannabis under 20 grams, and refusal to present a marijuana registry. Prosecutors later dropped the two marijuana-related charges. She entered a no-contest plea on the remaining offenses, received one year of reporting probation, completed 50 hours of community service, and adjudication was withheld on the open container charge.
