REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures a tense confrontation with a distressed driver who refuses to provide identification after being stopped for driving without headlights. This bodycam video documents the critical initial exchange that would escalate into a physical removal from the vehicle. In this police bodycam footage from August 15, 2022, Joliet police officers approach Jeffrey Hlavatovic, 25, in the Louis Joliet Mall parking lot near the Cinemark theater around 1 a.m., following reports of a man screaming with his pants down who was then observed driving recklessly in circles. The interaction begins with an officer stating the reason for the stop: "You're driving, you're driving on the road with your headlights off. That's a traffic infra-" The driver immediately disputes this claim: "My headlights are not working." The officer responds matter-of-factly: "Well that's... Well they're probably aren't on." The officer then attempts to identify the driver: "So show me your, show me your license." The driver appears confused or evasive, responding: "So you... my car." The officer repeats his request: "Show me your license. Your, your... you committed a traffic offense." When asked "You what's your name?" the driver changes the subject. The footage then captures a significant escalation as the driver makes accusations of officer misconduct: "You broke my fucking door and you broke my arm." This statement, recorded on bodycam, suggests either that some physical interaction has already occurred or that the driver is making unfounded allegations. The officer continues his attempt to identify the driver: "What's your name?" The driver challenges the officer's authority: "Where's your evidence? You committed traffic offense." When the officer maintains "No I didn't," the driver repeats: "Where's your evidence?" The exchange concludes with the driver making a threat or prediction: "You're all going to jail." According to police reports, the situation would eventually require officers to physically remove Hlavatovic from the vehicle after he refused to exit. Following a brief struggle, he was arrested on charges of obstructing/resisting a peace officer and reckless driving. This police bodycam footage captures the challenging early moments of an encounter with an individual displaying erratic behavior, highlighting the difficulties officers face when routine traffic stops involve subjects who refuse basic cooperation with identification requests.
